Does anyone have a component list / schematic / test procedure for the Ecostat V8 controller? I have just inherited a very well made warming cabinet that was working until I arrived and it went "pop" as it was unplugged.

Examination of the PCB shows at least 2 resistors burnt out as well as the main transistor but interestingly the internal fuse has not blown.

Any help would be greatly received.

Cheers,

Mark

Sounds like a job for "Mr Recycling" i.e. junk the thermostat and buy a new one.

There has been quite a lot of discussion here on the best thermostat and I am not sure there is a clear winner.

You can use a standard room central heating controller like these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SALE-Simp...arden_Hearing_Cooling_Air&hash=item2c5c951bd8. The problem is these only go up to 35C in my experience and you really need it to go to 50C to fully melt well set OSR honey.

This looks good but I don't know the maximum temerature it can be set at: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Digital-Temperature-Controller-Thermostat-Aquarium-/260841088348

Have you tried http://www.electro-tech-online.com/
they have a forum for these projects, but as RoofTops says it is probably beyond economical repair, after sourcing all the parts and shipping costs. It may cost more to repair than buying a new one. Sometimes the components are made in Australia and elsewhere making repair prohibitive. Workarounds may not fit the unit. But try the electro tech forum first, there are knowledgeable people on there that can advise you.

I bought an Ecostat new earlier this year and the instructions were, er, skimpy. Certainly no component list or similar was enclosed. You can buy them for a lot less than T@@rnes sell them if you search the web ... Pinker(s) a Game Rearing company sell them for £55ish.
