Drones with Swarm?

Captured a swarm from one of our hives this AM and while going through the mass of bees looking for her Maj, I noticed several drones.

Why would drones go with a swarm? Do they just get caught up in the excitement or is there a reason?

Why would drones go with a swarm? :

Why would they not, especially if the swarm contained a virgin queen that might need impregnating?

Drones pretty much go where they please.

Drones are only interested in VQ at certain times of day (apparently). We lost one swarm last year where drones got closed above the QE in a super (error). Put the QE up a storey to resolve it and closed up. Turned my back and wooshhh.....off they went with hundreds of drones straight down into the wood at top speed!
