Completed my first inspection for 4 weeks yesterday, the cold continues but the worry of possible swarm was too great to resist inspection any longer. In one of my hives I noticed 1 fully developed and emerged drone wandering around the comb who had pink eyes not the usual black. Is this likely to be albinoism or something else? (Its body colour was normal.)
If something else what might it be?
If it is albinoism, how common is it in bees. Would a drone such as this be fully functional. (Academic question really as I have a shortage of drones)
Thanks.

Numerous mutants are known and maintained - most described by Laidlaw.

One of the usual genetics/breeding books has a summary - can't remember which off top of my head and not to hand.

AFAIK won't affect drone function.
