Ok one for the clever people on here, I had a drone laying queen that caused chaos in a hive and in the end she was removed (grwat looking queen too), anyway a week or so later a queen cell appears? how... :)

could it be a king lol

Even drone laying queens can fire off the occasional fertilized egg.

I was going to guess (thought it was a 'puzzle' question for the beginners) and say you added a frame of eggs and young brood. Seems the sensible thing to do in the circumstances.

If a drone laying queen lays an egg in a queen cell cup, there is every likelihood that the bees will, in their desperation, make a queen cell out of it. But nothing will, of course, come of it.

Not sure what they would do if a laying worker lays an egg in a queen cell cup in a properly queenless colony. But perhaps they might raise a queen cell on that as well.

They often do try......obviously nothing becomes of that either.

the fact that the desperate workers have raised a queen cell is irrelevent. what matters is whether a new queen resulted. presume not in this case?
