I Have one hive in my back garden. How close to the first hive can i put a second hive?

I always give myself room to work and idealy as a minium room to place another hive inbetween the two.

Jims advice describes well the "two hive stand" I bought second hand. There is about a 30" space between the hive mounts - enough to comfortably place the roof and stack hive parts during inspection.
