Ok I caught a swarm about 4 weeks ago, in a brood box and a super (no QX between the two)
Yesterday I went in with frames and foundation prepared to put in. The queen had been laying in the super I could see lavi and brood but no eggs (possibly I just didn't see them doesn't mean they weren't there!)
I did find the queen and shake her in to the brood box and then placed a QX between super and brood box.
Today I find a queen outside the hive on the floor with three or four bees around her, she's obviously dead :-(
It is conceivable that she never made it in to the brood box and got squished during inspection but I really don't think so. I'm adamant she made it safely into the brood box.
Any suggestions as to why she's died / been killed and what I should do now?
My plan A is to wait a few dAys and then inspect hoping to find eggs and there for a new queen.
Would a swarm replace the queen so soon?
If she was squished can a worker lay a replacement queen or will I need to buy a new one?
Thank for advice in advance,
Dutton
