Iv just found my marked last years queen dead on the floor outside the hive. Iv not looked in the hive as yet any thoughts on what has happened and should I open the hive or leave it for a while thanks

Hives may sometimes go over winter with an old and a new queen. They don't get rid of the old one until spring. Fingers crossed that if this is the case the new queen was well mated!

Thanks I was hopping that might be the case Should I have a look see what's going on or leave it a few days.

You should look what is happening in the hive.

One reason for queen dead is nosema. The queen stops laying and dies off.
If you see emerged queen cells, there is then a virgin which killed the old queen. And so on...
If it is nosema, it is not a good idea to join the hive to another.
