As mentioned yesterday.

First paint the box with either gloss or matt emulsion.

Then....cut three bits of 12mm ply to make using one, the dam for the feeder, 64mm from the end wall, fact to face, and glue two on to the other end wall to take up the space for the bee space to come right. I use water proof glue for the gluing and sanitary silicone for the dam.

I cut three 28mm holes, one at the opposite end to the dam for an entrance, and two in the floor. The floor holes are covered with mesh, stainless steel at 8 holes to the inch.

I keep the cut outs from the holes as they make a neat enterance plug for moving the nucs.

The stand is 50 x 50mm glued and screwed on.

The frames are a pretty good fit and there you are, a Langstroth box converted to National at not much of a cost at all. Say £3 or so. I am sure that baring disasters it will be going strong long after my ashes are on Luskintyre Beach in Harris.

Well done Poly, very helpful, thanks.

Are they Swienty lang nucs ? - how much do they cost ?

They don't look as hard (dense) as I was expecting them to be. Do the bees chew them at all ?

JC.
