Colony numbering

What does everyone do when they split or remove a nuc from an existing hive colony, does the record history follow the queen or the main hive brood?

The example being a large colony that I have taken away 2 frames of bees including the queen, so do my records follow her?

me too, thats what makes sence although it gets messy

Mine as well. e.g Hive 4 queen, then AS, becomes 4A, 4B etc. Depending on how many QC is split the hive off with.
