Collecting pollen when there are lots of drones

Are there ways of using a pollen trap when you have loads of drones in your hives?

Struggle to find good pollen frames to use when grafting (I only need a dozen cells, max). My colonies seem to live hand-to-mouth with pollen, using it as it comes in. So made a box to go on the front of my entrances that will hold one of these:


Covers the whole entrance. If I use now it'll get clogged with drones.

When I made my pollen trap floor using one of these, I drilled out a few of the pollen comb stars. Never get any trapped drones

Traps stay on for short periods only ideally…1 day on 1 or 2 days off. Used like this restricting drones is not an issue.
