My Clematis Montana died sometime in the spring. I hadn’t got round to removing it until today. When I did this afternoon, the smell was disgusting, like rotting flesh. It was oozing yuk. I haven’t seen anything like this before. Any idea what may have happened? 15F6FCD5-CF9C-465E-92C5-5111751A7164.jpegCB1BFA5B-DA0F-4EC9-B233-849DCD5A427F.jpeg

It’s definitely that. The plant was about 18yrs old. Info suggests older specimens are more vulnerable, especially if they have been weakened by a bad winter.

The same thing happened to our Bill Mackenzie this spring and that was only 2 years old.
