I have a colony outside my bedroom window (bungalow) and I have several quick looks at the entrance each day, so its well studied. It swarmed and has had a virgin for a while, but I think I can tell from watching the entrance that the queen is now laying. The bees are much more enthusiastic about their foraging and the traffic at the entrance has massively increased. Also, there's lots of pollen being brought in and the bees just look more contented. I guess she could be a drone-layer (already got one of those in a nuc), but somehow, I dont think so. This may all be in my head - wishfull thinking - I'll find out at the weekend.

There are lots of ups and downs in beekeeping!
