Uncapped stores (light coloured wax) all at edge and only one frame's worth. Would expect a more central pattern and more frames being involved. Hungry bees?

Colony = omf floor, brood, super ,crown board weighing 40 lbs. The
Picture was taken two weeks ago.
They have demolished 6 kgs of fondant and had 10kgs added today...
My assumption was the same they were hungry and of medium size.

Mentoree thought 6kgs was enough even though I told them how much they needed.
"as we've left a super with frames of honey we thought this would be enough" reply(me) pls listen to me next time..
Because they would of been dead by Christmas.
Mentoree reply very sorry.
Me : you've spent hundreds of pounds on equipment and bees.
I gave you the advice about feeding you would of lost your bees.

Your observations are good folks thankyou.

40lbs is approx 10kg too light

My colonies with the same set up weighed nearly 40 Kg a month or so ago.
Yep same here 40kgs minimum is what I aim for hopefully by the start of October.
30kgs for single brood
Nucs 12.5kgs.

I had to :hairpull: for a bit.. Frustrating when folk don't listen hey!

Looking at the board
Signs that a comb of stores has gone or seriously dented.
The brood appears to be at the back of the hive if that batten is the rear of the board, that's a bit strange.
If the super was a full one and the colony is as small as it looks and desperate for stores, perhaps being robbed.
Maybe it would have been better off in a nuc
I can honestly say none of my hives has ever weighed 88lbs for Winter.

Thanks Steve I'm waiting for more photos to see what the colony looked like, but suggested he looks and if the super is empty to remove it.
By the photos I've got, there wasn't that many bees coming to greet you.
I aim for 40kgs for a brood plus super configuration.
I've colonys 38kgs 36kgs Over 70lb is perfect really in my area.

I had said 9+ kgs or 15 Litres of 2:1 but the syrup feeding then obviously got to late.
Im thinking they used the honey stores in the super for winter brood and used the fondant storing it in the brood.
When I've more photos I'll post them on here.
