I was studying a very useful post from some years back that gave all the dimensions of the various types of hives, their bodies, frames and foundation.
(Although in imperial measurements these can be quickly converted to metric.)
The one group of numbers I could not relate to the figures given was 'brood area'.
I thought as it refers to 'area' it couldn't be the volume of the brood chamber itself, so I tried to relate the figure to the sum of the areas of both sides of the foundation in a given brood frame, multiplied by the number of recommended frames for that brood box type, but still couldn't get a match.
Can anyone advise what the term 'brood area' is calculated on?
Or should I just order a new calculator and/ or brain from Amazon?
