YOu return to the apiary and your hard drive went bust last night, the mobile phone mast blew up and your high tech gear is useless as it so often is and always when you want it.

So.

In a high tech society a back up is always good.

Meet the brick.

Every hive should have one and all of mine do.

My bricks tell me very simple stories.

In line side to side the colony is dead.

In line from back to front all was well at last inspection.

Upright on end, colony needs attention, refer to record card.

For the very high tech and others this is how I work my cards.

example.

Q Blue + C (Queen marked blue and clipped)

3/4 3 +1 (three frames of brood plus brood on one side)

12/4 4 + 1

etc...

20/5 Q/c A/s done. Q moved. ( Queen cells seen, Artificial swarm done, Queen in split)

And so on, it takes seconds, speaks volumes and will not crash.

Ah...but what if some dodgy builder pinches your bricks?

If they want to tramp into the OSR for my 2nd hand bricks they are welcome to them.

I record my hive inspections in a rather sticky note book and transfer the info on to my computer for reference. Ifthe computer goes down then I have the note book to refer to. Ensure you take two pencils because one will break and be of no use until sharpened.
I do not use bricks,

Regards;

bricks are old school, nothing wrong with that mind

Thats funny i do a similar thing, except no brick means all ok, brick or clod of earth means attention, make life so much easier when just in for a flying visit to check on the priorities.
