Happens when the server is down for maintenance, might just be that.
Still nothing. And throwing server errors if you try specific files. That's not maintenance.

their IP indicated they are hosted by webspoke international solutions of brighton and that is not reporting any problems

The could be changing hosts
 
Google is it just me, you'll bring up a site which will check any sie apparently down . It takes seconds, this way you'know whether or not the prob is at your end or at the web site your after!

Maybe, but the problem with any diagnostics is they are only go as far as they are designed to.

The website returns an http message, it's therefore up and the diagnostics say it's all great. But it isn't because there is no content in the return from the default page. Try a known page on the site, google will find you something such as the category listing http://www.<the site name>/categories.asp and that returns an internal server error. The server software (IIS) is up but cannot see any content for the site. Disk failure? Failed site maintenance? Accidental delete or re-initialisation? It's where a site host proves to be worth the fee or a waste of space.
