Anyone advice on the best time of day to check hives ? first thing in the morning? midday? in the evening?

With full sunshine I just wonder if openeing the hives up during the day is good for the bees, having said that doing it first or last thning in the day means the hive is going to be full of bees and more difficult to check for Queen cells.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Jez

Lunchtime is best,I like to do mine between 8am-10am or around 4pm until 6pm because of the heat.

I find the late afternoon is best for me.

thats what I am going for today, about 6pm

cheers all

I tend to check between 2 to 4pm ... although did a check at 9:30pm last week -never again as I got three stings from normally placid bees .... anyone know why bees did'nt like being checked after 9pm?

Bees never like being opened up near dusk. the most placid colony can be a monster at this time.
