Got my nuc last weekend and have sucessfully installed it into the hive.

Noticed today that there were 2 bees with stunted wings walking around the ground by the hive.

Is this a sign of varroa ? I have examined the 2 bees carefully and there are no varroa on them or is this just an abnormality that affects a certain percentage of bees born due to fluctuating humidity levels ?

Yep thats varroa (deformed wing virus).

Don't worry about it though unless there are loads of them walking around.

But don't let it get to the state that there are loads of them in the colony.

Varroa in the capped cell with the devloping bee. You won't necessarily see any on the adult bee.

DWV transmitted by varroa. Check with your supplier and find out what treatment(s) they have had and when. If in doubt - treat.

I lost a whole colony last year - from thriving to expired in 4 weeks:mad:
