Need advice from those who keep their bees by a field of cows, is this base too close to the fence or will they ignore it ?

I would have the hive about 3 feet (or slightly more) away from away from the barbed wire fence to be safe.

When the hive has lots of supers on the cows might decide to stick their heads over the barbed wire and rub their heads them. This is not really a problem in daylight but more of a possible issue in the dark.

You also need think about being able to work the hive from all round just in case you have problems.

Good luck!

I agree with oxfordbee. If space allows I would move it back a few feet, there is very little young bullocks ignore!

Si.

Thanks both, will move it tomorrow before the bees arrive later in the evening.

I know they stick their heads through to eat the grass, but thought they might choose not to when there are bees flying.

bullocks....
