The December Edition of the BBKA News arrived today so over a cup of coffee I have just had a quick scan through it. I now take back my criticism of the article on ley lines as clearly I had not appreciated the BBKA now has a section for fiction.

The December item in this section is an item on how the queen communicates with the bees in the hive by vibrating the comb with her legs and this is how swarming takes place.

He then goes on to show how this language of the bees is carried forward by the drones through some obscure reasoning involving a queen from "distant lands" mated with a local drone.....zzzz

Sorry, reading fiction always sends me to sleep eventually.

I wonder if the BBKA will be submitting this article for the Booker Prize?

Of course it could be a serious beekeeping article - in which case it is utter tosh.

Thanks for the heads up. I seriously look forward to it and I can feel my fingers itch...

Rooftops - you must be rather insulated from 21st century reality down there in the South Hams. everyone knows that modern "ladies" are partial both to a bit of vibration when in the right mood AND genetic input from big dark strangers with a hint of foreign mystery about them - even if he does just play for a 3rd division team and hails from North London.

I'm sure it helps you to talk about it.

It sounds a bit like something Steiner would have written. It must be great to have such a fertile imagination.

Mine usually arrives the same day as Private Eye. I wonder what I'll read first.

I am surprised the BBKA manages to publish anything at all. It must be hard writing articles on a steam powered typewriter by candlelight

:p

Newsflash- they have just replaced the candles with gas lamps but are having trouble lighting them by rubbing two sticks together.

Don't be silly! They must have advanced to matches - or where else would they get matchsticks to hold up their crownboards!!? Ha ha.

They took the matches to burn witches, apparently it's the latest craze in the century they inhabit.

I think the BBKA need an approach like scientific periodicals and peer review their articles because at present they seem to be at the end of the pier reviewed rather than peer reveiwed

Since the glossy version has been out, they seem to be down at the bottom barrel trying to find articles to fill the extra pages

Can someone scan it and PM me with it please, my membership has ended, Hooray!

PH

I can't work out how to attach a file to a PM, I also can't see anything in BBKA News about preventing reproduction of content - so I've attached it to this post.

Thanks, shame the article is err... not worth the effort.

Is anyone able to stretch out a couple of hundred words on "The place of matchsticks in beekeeping today"?

IMO it doesn't do a lot of good taking the p*** over and over, either. All that achieves is a host of others clamouring to join in (fit in?) and add to the mocking.
All a bit playground IYAM.

Yes the BBKA have an article already being pier reviewed,,, Brighton pier I believe.... starts with 700 words on the danger of using live matches and comes down very hard on Swan Vesta due to phosphorus content.... good advice on how to write up a full risk assessment and some good links to miles of EU legislation

Wonder what they will come up with for beeks to conform to EU regulations on honey production?

Oxallic Acid season is about to start... that usually brings forth some debate!

I am not sure about OA but if I have to ever use it I will only do so as per Hivemakers recommendation and give 4 doses. It's really the only way to be sure.
