Could any of you good chaps explain the nuc method of swarm control..I have more than enough equipment to do a Pagden but I am curious with the nuc method..the reason being I have a strong angry colony hell bent on swarming and the Queen and any virgins are on borrowed time..I will be doing a artificial swarm tomorrow while I have a bit of spare time..

When I get finished lambing in roughly five days I will order four mated Queens (availability dependant) and make nucs from this colony and splat the evil Queen.
Thanks
Steve.

Stick queen and shake some bees and a frame of brood into a nuc (plus stores and pollen).
Either allow a queen cell in hive to mature and emerge (not a good option in many cases) or add frame of eggs from known good queen and only allow these to develop. Or add new queen...tricky cos lots of older bees.

Nuc method totally depends on you finding the queen...Not an issue in your case....certainly an issue in mine ;)

Put open or closed cells into a nuc with the frame they are on and at least another frame of brood plus a good shake from a further comb and repeat as often as you like. I usually make up three nucs and leave the parent with an open cell.

Very simple as I like simple.

Typical beekeeping...One simple question.... three different interpretations ( so far).

Umm no. Its a description of A nucleus method to be pedantic. AFAIK there is no such thing as "the" nucleus method. :)

Don't forget that if you use a nuc method, you will have a large queenless colony remaining. If they are none too pleasant, there is a good chance they will be worse being queenless.
