Hi,

I work for Bee Equipment Ltd.

Lots of fake news about at the moment.

This is not fake news at all. The VMD website has a list of Veterinary-Only
Wholesale Dealer Sites. Unfortunately I can not post a direct link on this forum but if you search for 242627-v46-GDP_register_of_sites.pdf you can read the document.

Blatant self promotion innit?

Yes it is. We are doing things properly and we are proud of it.

IIRC correctly Amitraz (the active ingredient)of both Apitraz and Apivar is not VMD controlled any longer. Hence their availability from a wide range of suppliers.
As I said before fake news.

Addendum....As I was writing this the 2 posters above have both confirmed my recollections.
Nice try CharlieL.:biggrinjester:

It is not a controlled drug but you need to be a registered distributor with the VMD, which you can also see on that web page.

I dare say that thymol and oxalic acid, each properly administered, are both preferable alternatives. Vmd is just another way of fleecing the apiarist.

To be strictly correct, Apivar and Apitraz are authorised veterinary medicines and are therefore 'controlled' under the VMD. They are however classified as general sales list medicines (AVM-GSL) which do not have to be sold from registered retail premises but they must be distributed to retail premises by either the manufacturer or a registered wholesaler.

The reference on the VMD website to 'controlled drugs' relates to the Misuse of Drugs Act and Misuse of Drugs Regulations. It has nothing to do with whether or not the drug is a medicine under the VMD. Amitraz is not a controlled drug meaning that it is not an opiate or other class of controlled drug.
