Have read its ok to feed whilst using apiguard. I put the first apiguard trays in on the 15th Sept and put feed in on the 19th and have noticed none of the 4 hives are taking the syrup down. Pre apiguard syrup taken in a couple of days. Am presuming the apiguard is preventing them from feeding. Is this usual?

I doubt it is, its probably because your hives may well be well stocked and the ivy has started, so they are concentrating on that more. Unless all four of your hives are queen less, which i very much doubt, they do take ivy over preference. i have never seen them stop taking feed because of the use of Apiguard, its usually another reason.

im using apilife var you can smell it easy 10 foot from hive and bees still feeding well

I have two hives - one had a long brood break so I'm not treating them, the other I am treating with Apilife Var.

The not being treated stopped taking syrup. The one being treated shovelled it down. So I surmise the treatment itself made no difference.

Mine always stop feeding when the apiguard goes on, makes for a tricky balance between feeding & treating.

I found on one hive that stopped feeding during Apiguard, if I placed the rapid feeder directly on top of the frames - not the crown board - they restarted feeding...

:iagree:

Some colonies take syrup when thymol treatments are used others don't.
I used apilifevar, when treatment was stopped the hives which would not take syrup started.

As all four have stopped feeding at exactly the same time i can only assume it must be the apiguard

I give a feed if needed before thymol as most of my hives stop taking syrup once treatment is on.
