This beastie nearly carried off one of my children.
Found in an urban street it was about 40mm long and you could hear its wings flapping against the wind breaker which it was on, sounding like a moth.
I've never seen one of these in my life before.... it flew off after I took a few pictures.

Is it an insect,a bird or a mammal, humming bird hawk moth, great tit...or a bat.

How about a Rhondda Valley goolley crusher?

Sereously! Its a Horntail or a Urocerus gigas as a entro... try again entrippollogist sorry a specialist in insects would say
Cheers

I have watched these hovering round my tubs and hanging baskets, they attack and carry off the hover flies that come in for the pollen.

can it sting you and do us beeks, need to worry if they are found near our hives ?

only if they have a hi-ab.
