Ants around Hive

They are partial to eating Verroa mites.
If you want to get rid of them then buy some Borac acid powder and mix it in a savers 10 pence jelly and leave chunks around the base of the hive.

Or go the whole hog and put the hive legs in tins of oil with a shield on top to keep the rain out.
 
Got quite a few ants around my hives as well, been keeping an eye on them, they dont seem to have made any attempt to get into the hive itself but i have seen them on the screen under my mesh floor, taking the odd mite away. just be aware that if your trying to count mite drop you may not get an accurate figure if the ants have eaten them.
