Ants and polyurethane boards.

I’ve never seen it before this year but it’s happened in several of my apiaries.

Yes, it’s interesting. The ants seem to be mining the PU and creating a nest. I’ve yet to slice one open and see.

Every year when I carry the hives or nucs into woods. They make their home into the board.

Probably as the only go into the open edges

Its a pain in certain (sandy?) apiaries, but doesn't seem to impact the bees unless its a weak colony, when the bees will invade the hive. When I feel its an issue, I grease the legs of the hive stand and this seem to prevent the problem. brush the bits off the crown board, so it doesn't get into the supers, although should float and get skimmed off
