I made a cast iron promise to myself that I would stick with just the one colony, it's all I have time for

I've just set up my third. Help:eek:

for any sense of proper bee keeping you need minimum 2 hives and for minimum "certain" bee keeping you need 3. So you are doing great...

A wise man once said....one good hive, one mediocre hive and one poor hive.....therefore you need three!

I started off with one at the beginning of the year, had to do an AS so then had two and then caught a swarm and now have three. I’m a keen cyclist and the ideal number of bikes is N+1. Same with hives it seems.

Im sorry to say you are beyond help, you most likely have beekeepingitis, its incurable and the symptoms slowly get worse over time :)

Yes, once you've caught it the impulse to get more bees or keep the extra colonies your bees produce becomes almost impossible to resist ...

This forum is occasionally the beekeepring equivalent of alcoholics anonymous ! The place is full of bee-addicts.

Trouble is, the number of hives keeps increasing even if you don't want them to!

I had 3 last in the middle of last year too. We started off with 6 this year and now we have 18. Without buying any. It doesn't help that I kind of advertise locally as a swarm collector..... It's far too many. I guess I will overwinter and sell.
