I inspected both of my colonies yesterday. Both looked fine and they both had lots of capped stores. My mentor advised to keep feeding until they don't take any more.

Should I keep piling it in until this point is reached or should I let them focus on caping all that they have. There is a lot of ivy around which they are frantically feeding on ?

If they're anything like mine they'll ignore the syrup over the ivy..
As on a few other threads make sure tehy have enough room or they'll fill every space with stores and not have enough room for the winter brood.

On a similar vein, books I have read suggest stopping feeding about now so honey can be capped. Has anyone experience of how late in the year one can feed?

Dick, we're having an exceptionally warm October - in other years we wouldn't even be thinking of continuing to feed. I'd suggest stopping feeding and leaving them to it....
