As members will be aware I set up an adult forum after a few jokes that got posted upset a few members.

I have now removed the adult forum until further notice while I sort out what to do for the best.

The problem is a few schools want to use the forum for Beekeeping education and understanding.

I have to make a choice between removing the section so the forum is safer for students against allowing it to continue and having it seen/read by kids.

Fine with me.

But another option used on other forums is to have a "request to join" section.

Not to be elitist, but to just alow an extra line of defence if you like.

This still allows the for "off topic adult chat" and by this I am not meaning ilegal, but just "pub chat" etc.

No problem
There is enough 'Adult' junk out there on the internet.
So a cleaner Forum suits me fine :Angel_anim:

Makes good sense I suppose Mark you will have to change from "Administrator" to Sir.

I see myself more as the "domestic bursar" than a house master.

The "Adult" section adds no value to the forum at all. It seems not to have any bee relevance so aye off with its head.

None, although I have my eye on one ( Just don't tell Dusty ;) )
Don't mind either way. I like a good rudey joke, but if it is stopping schools being able to access the forum, then get rid.

Well some of these posts have been smutty to say the least. Is smut to be outlawed too?

I asked originally for the adult section...........sure it has nothing about bees in it, but there was always the option to go in and read or not if you don't like it. Another forum I visit has a "Sewer" section and a "Bar" you have to be over 18 to join in either, they do not show up on the screen unless you have joined the usergroup.

I asked for it once, I won't fight to keep it, but it's sad when so few have a sense of humour, life is humerous....even beekeeping. I would hate to think that bees were the only thing in my life and I couldn't see beyond the box.

One thing (Just to divert a little) More so !' the one word and three word fora ' , encourage postings ,often for the perceived kudos of postings numbers , reinforced by the categorising of subscribers on numbers of postings rather than content !!
Sorry about the spanner:smilielol5:.
Back to the thread .
I have to smile and often belly laugh at the adult forum .

Maybe as stated earlier, a separate subscription could be introduced but then again schools contain kids and kids will find a way around any bocking mechanisms 'Clever little so and so's'
Mind you some of the debates on the forum in general are less than helpful in coaching children in the art of reasoned debate :seeya:

Yes John is correct about "clever so and so's", given that the www is 99.99999% porn anyway I don’t think a beekeeping forum is the first place kids would come for "adult" content.

Lets remember why the forum was set up, and I don’t think kids was the reason.

Also no offence to the forum, but it is a forum, not a reference section or scientific paper.

Kids should be using the net, but is a chat forum the best place? I don’t think so.

So like many things in the Uk at the moment, lets not pander to the minorities.

It was surprising how many people posted in the adult section and by some posters you would not think would "stoop so low" as to post in such a section. Nothing was risk-A and it gave us all a laugh.

I agree. Hidden sections are common on all sorts of forums. A chat and bar section that needs separate sign up seems fine by me....or what else are we going to talk about all winter:p?

It would certainly be good if "First word in you head" and "Three word story" attracted no post count. It might sort out the really sad from the post count pumping people.

I'm with Admin, what ever he decides is just fine with me.
