Attended an interesting lecture at the UBKA convention weekend before last.
It was given by Fleming Vesnæs (A beekeeping advisor for the Danish BKA) and dealt with disease and varroa intolerance (Not once did he metion the dreaded 'shook swarm' by the way)
One of his associates Lutz Eggert has got fed up with hand pricking the test patches of brood when doing hygienic behaviour tests so has developed a handy little gadget for those who don't have a container of liquid Nitrogen at hand to kill a brood sample.
It is not on the market yet but can be pre-ordered through their (still under construction) website

They will be sold at a reasonable price (I can't remember how much now)
The parallelogram shape has been worked out to be the most efficient way of covering an area of brood
