"45000 bees stolen" reported today

Was listening to bbc radio 2 today when the news came on and there was a report of 45000 bees stolen in Scotland. Was quite amused at how it was reported. But not what has happened.

Interesting the report says 95% of bees in the colony are drones and the queen can command upto 50000 drones at the height of summer.

Unfortunately the quality of reporting up here in Scotland is very poor at the best of times. Its quite embarrassing when you know a bit about a subject and they report it like this. It is also a bit irresponsible to even mention the cost involved as this might make it seem like a viable target for thieves, who can easily get a bit of knowledge from YouTube these days. I have heard of a tattooist recently who told his client that he trained on YouTube!! Frightening

stolen beehives

3/4th May I had some funny phone calls from someone in Bideford, Devon, trying to sell me bees. They had slightly canadian voices. Then they said the bees were at Hatherleigh (nearer) but wouldn't give me an address. On 1471 their number was withheld. Where did they get the beeas from?
