I have 2, 3 frame nucs in a home made wooden double box. Is it too late to move them to 5 or 6 frame polys and take a frame from some of my big hives to make them up? These are queens that i grafted late but doing well.

Go for it: if ivy is out were you are, colonies of whatever size can back-fill the brood area very quickly (saw it several times yesterday).

My experience of over-wintering 3-frame nucs (BS twinstock poly nucs) is that they also ran out of laying space early in the year, and at that point the packed frames were awkward to get out.

One frame of drawn comb would be useful when making up the 6 frames.
