Hi

Got 2 swarms today :hurray:

Thanks for the help Dulwich Gnome.

There sitting in a skep and a box, Its raining off and on.

Do I try and run them in this evening or wait till tomorrow?

Thanks for your swift replies.

This evening if possible - the sooner they get started drawing comb the better. Idf they have been hangng about for a few days they could be getting low on portable stores.

Protection, if possible, for rain.

Regards, RAB

Yea it's chucking it down now.

Shall I chuck them in or will they still walk in.(in the rain) O.0

Ok I'm sitting in my van and it's monsooning it down.

Look like I'll have to just go for it and dump them in when I get to the new sight.

Thanks for the quick advice.

It's wet and cold here I go. Chaaaaaaaarrrrrgggg.

Swarm collecting in the pouring rain is a nightmare! I have been perched on top of high wall freezing cold and the bees were cold and wet and lots of them were dying:angelsad2: They were dying so fast that in the end I picked them up and dumped them in the box. I'm not sure they will survive.

South East London seems full of swarms today!

I hope yours do well Onge.

It would seem the swarm didn't consult the weather before they left. Should of listened to their previous owner and stayed put :gnorsi:

Just got back.

Wow that was intense.

Beekeeping in the dark, rain and cold, I don't recommend it.

Ended up dumping them straight in the hives, think most of them went in.

Thanks all for the help

Good result then Onge, one final stage to complete the hiving process of course.

Select whisky
Pour Whisky
Relax
Reflect
Enjoy

I'm actually sipping a glass of wine and eating a raisin whirl.

I'm fresh out of whisky.

Crossing my fingers there still there tomorrow. :)

Cheers.

They will still be there tomorrow. Whether they stay is another matter!

I take it you didn't mess around putting a Q/E under the broods, then?

They will be OK. Hopefully it will pour with rain tomorrow, so they won't even think of absconding?

Pop in some brood from another colony, the Q/E, or simply be confident? I would do one of the first two if practicable! If they are still there by the time it is ready to feed them, they'll (almost certainly) stay.

Sounds like a good job done. Relax and enjoy the tipple.

Regards, RAB

Yea it was too crazy and dark to do the Q/E under the brood.

So i'll just go with the confidence method.

Cheers.

Just an update.

Had to walk the big one back in again the next day, they were starting to build on the outside of the hive.

There both doing very well now. Eggs brood and a bit of capped honey, just over half the hive drawn out already. With no feeding.

Last inspection was on 25/05/10.
