Those slabs would be better buried flush with the ground, and the feet base ought to sit flush with the slab. Compare with WoodenBeam's slabs and feet on post 38.

Field work is different but this is a potential mother for next year. We don't raise queen's off any colony that isn't bombproof (although this is a loose term because there are always variables as you know with any animal). We need to have total confidence that at least we're starting from somewhere good. Obviously there will be further variables in the next generation but they can be fixed by culling out the bad ones - it's easy to raise queen's, the hard bit is learning which ones to get rid of!
