    Too big?

Overwintered in brood and a half and had to treat with MAQS three weeks ago. The hive are still on brood and a half and have bias on two frames in each box. HM seen today and young eggs but she seems to be laying very slowly. Wondering if putting super on top of the brood box and a QX in the...

    Maqs

Just opened hive two weeks after applying MAQS. Very slow to lay, have seen a few uncapped brood but seems to have slowed the old girl down. Didn't see queen but some newly hatched eggs. The hive was on brood and a half so the size of the hive may be a bit off putting to them. I only went into...

    Maqs

I have used MAQS for the first time, not only does this seem to have a good effect so far and decent drop.... It also made my eyebrows almost fall off after inadvertently inhaling hard when opening the packet.:rules::hairpull::hairpull:

    Deformed wing virus

Had a 24 hour mite drop and have counted 10. Seems a little high, any thoughts on treatment or just dust on inspections still? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Deformed wing virus

The hive is strong and has plenty of bees and lots of stores and was treated with apiguard in August/September. Couldn't use oxalic over winter as bees were not clustering. Adding screen now to count drop- if needed what treatment would be useful for this time of year? Sent from my iPhone...

    Deformed wing virus

    Treatment

My bees didn't cluster this winter so I was unable to use oxalic treatment. I used thymol in August/September but wondered what people are using now (if any) to treat for varroa. All thoughts welcome! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Wet frames

How long should I leave my wet super frames on for? Not sure if they should go back on and be left of for a short period and then allowed to refill or just leave on brood and a half and build winter stores?

Overwintering on brood and a half

Thanks for all the answers- I have nationals and have brood box on bottom with super on top to make brood and a half. Queen still laying well but most stores are in the top super which is packed. The bottom brood box is not too full of stores as mostly brood and pollen. Hoping when I remove...

Overwintering on brood and a half

I am about to extract my supers and leave my hive (on brood and a half) to prep for winter. The question is- will the bees be ok to overwinter on brood and a half?

    Close escape!

Closing up after inspection- handy found queen but eggs there so all happy. Just about to put hive lid on and a bee was moving in the corner. On closer inspection it was my queen! Lucky spot.... Anyone else had any close runs?!

What did you do in the Apiary today?
