    Moving brood frames between sites

Hi all, I want to move some brood frames from a large nuc to another hive to help boost them. My question is, how long do I have from taking the frames out of the nuc and putting them into the other hive before they run the risk of chilled brood? Cheers.

    Setting up a bait hive

Hi all, I have some equipment that's not currently in use that I've been thinking of using as a bait hive to catch a swarm with. I've also changed out some of my old brood combs recently so I have some of that to use as an attractant. I'd just like to ask everyone what other advice and...

    Cast with laying workers?

Recently I hived a cast, this one not from one of my own colonies from what I could tell. I'd found the queen when I shook them into the nuc I'm keeping them in, and checked again when I opened the hive to let them fly 2 days later, still there. Yesterday I opened the nuc to check on them...

    Marker rapidly fading

I have a queen from last year which I marked red at the time, and a couple of new queens this year which naturally I've marked green. However, when I first inspected the red queen earlier this year, the marker had faded to the point that it was barely noticeable, so I trapped her and re-marked...

    Bizarre queenless colony post-swarm

I have a colony that was planning to swarm, and I knocked down what I thought were all of the queen cells apart from two. Apparently I was wrong, because when the queen emerged and I marked her, destroying the other, they swarmed anyway. I collected the swarm today (yesterday now, technically)...

    Storing supers and frames

Last year after I took off my supers I didn't have much storage space for them, so I ended up tying them up in bin bags and leaving them in the shed. This Spring I've found that some of them have developed specks of mold on the comb. So obviously I want a better storage method or container for...

    Replacing supers: Is this normal?

This morning I was extracting a super of honey from my main hive in my garden, and once I'd finished I placed all of the frames back into the super, marched back out into the garden, and put it back on the hive. I then went back inside, and started putting the honey through a filter, and it was...

    When to reunite?

Hey there, I recently posted this thread: http://beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=23993 Now, my queen, who is fairly young (late last year according to the person I got the nuc from) is a very prolific layer and I've decided that one, I don't want to pursue the risk of getting a scrub...

Bees are already preparing to swarm

This evening, I opened my backyard hive, which has bees I got from a nuc around a month ago. They are doing amazingly well and they have already spread across all brood frames and are drawing out the first super with comb. When looking at the bottom of the brood box frames, I found at least one...

    Hi from Liverpool

Hello, I'm a complete novice at beekeeping, and this year will (hopefully) be my first year as a beekeeper. I've already ordered my first hive and joined my local association, and beekeeping has been something I've wanted to do for a few years, but only recently felt that I had the opportunity...
