Gurus, when should I expect VISIBLE EQCs in a test frame?

Seen them 12 hours post test frame insertion, or 12 hours after a queen removal.

Good flow on here, but on what?

Just put 2 supers onto hives. Really good looking flow here! Going away until Monday tomorrow, thinking a couple of other hives will need supers before I go as well. One super I think will be ready to take off by the time I get back on Monday.

Good flow on here, but on what?

Bees returning to my hives covered in Balsam pollen! :D

    Fair warning

Couple of my hives seemed to be going through their stores quickly (lots of uncapped honey cells), was going to put on some feed, but when I next checked them they were bringing in lots of new nectar and pollen. Seems to have hit an ivy flow here.

    Varroa Treatment

I avoid using it except on hives that have a severe issue that needs to be dealt with as it's a synthetic chemical and made by Bayer, but Bayvarol is still very effective in much of the country. Just check if resistance is known in your area before using it, and use it sparingly when you have a...

How much for 8oz jar of run honey?

I've sold honey at £6.50 for a 1lb jar and had absolutely no issue moving them.

    Bees and solar panels

Bees should be able to find forage fine, IMO. As for the bee poo issue, solar panels are all designed to be self-cleaning, so they easily wash off in the rain.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Was quite surprised how quickly they jumped on the wasp and killed it too. One of them must have stung it because it quickly curled up paralysed and stopped moving its limbs after a few seconds. The hive reeked of alarm pheromone after though and I had to close them up because they were clearly...

    Jars in the dishwasher

Only a little. And a good trick is to pour off the top layer of water when it gets covered in soda scum.

    Jars in the dishwasher

Bucket full of piping hot water with soda, submerge and remove with a pair of tongs. Rinse in a bucket of boiled and cooled water without soda.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Saw a wasp land on the top bars and immediately get mobbed and killed by the bees during an inspection. Got a photo of it too!

    allotment eviction

One of the problems we have as a society is that people have become so disconnected from nature that while they yearn to re-connect with it, and thus get allotments etc., but then don't want to deal with everything that comes in the "nature" package. Grow things that need pollinating in your...

    What did you learn?

Didn't really learn anything that stands out to me, but was eager to watch from the perspective of wanting to see my favourite animals being explained on the telly. Also noticed the perspective people took to it wasn't to rush out and get a hive themselves, but to gain an appreciation that...

How do winter bees live longer?

Lack of brood smell/pheromone means the developmental processes where the bees would develop the physiology to be nurses doesn't develop. The bees produce and store a protein called Vitellogenin, which is the main protein constituent in royal jelly, fed to the larvae, queen, and in small amounts...

    Hive Alive BBC2 On Now!

Well, Kierney actually takes a personal interest in bees, but so does Bill Turnbull. I'm surprised the BBC haven't conscripted him into any of these documentaries yet.

    Hive Alive BBC2 On Now!

Didn't get a good look at the mites, will do so later when the show is on iPlayer. Bee lice another possibility maybe?

    Prime and cast swarms

A cast can also be the first swarm to leave the hive after the queen has been taken away in an unsuccessful A/S.
