1st inspection - lots of bees; no brood/eggs; can't see Queen

Stick with it....we all have disappointments. It's a marathon not a sprint, every year a new challenge; learn from the things that went badly yesterday and try and improve on it tomorrow...it's a fascinating craft, and the collective knowledge from so many on here will help...get a new queen in...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Checked on them over the weekend...I think they've used most of the feed or stored in the brood box, and the supers were all empty (thank goodness!) with minimal worker activity; brood box looking good with bees on about 8/9 frames.

    Over-wintering Nucs

Agree....This is pretty much exactly what I did with a small swarm from last year. Put them straight into a poly nuc, and fed...topped up with further smaller feeds in the autumn and Feb. This weekend, transferred them into a hive; going great guns so far and appear to have a nice nature too...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

So have I made a school-boy error here?....Thought a small amount of feed would encourage comb building on the foundation and repairs to the damaged/incomplete comb....I so very nearly didn't too!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I did think about that and decided to feed based on the following....(1) Frames in the supers are a mis-mash of foundation and (2) some (quite a bit) of damaged comb, in need of repair, so I'm hoping they'll use it rather than store it.... Only fed a relatively small amount, so my thinking is...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Fed all three colonies...added supers to two. A nice day, but not disturbing further until consistently warmer days arrive. Something's been nibbling at the front of an empty poly nuc, an almost round area just bigger than a 50p piece 3 or 4 mil deep...a mouse/bird perhaps....

    Pot-shot ID, please

Criminal Damage...(carries a ten year sentence),wonder what else they shot at...take a look at that cctv, hopefully identify the culprit, then report, or ask for a new nuc by way of compensation...otherwise they might be back for a bit more target practice!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

    Hmmm...you've got me worried now...better do a check. It's a fine balance between thinking how they're doing....and knowing how they're doing !

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Haha...true ! A massive site...you could probably put all your hives there, and still have room for hundreds more if you wanted.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Sorry...yes that's what I meant... KEVII, my Roman is rubbish ! Been there several times in the past, great location for the bees.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Did a check on the apiary yesterday; expected to see a bit of activity given it was bright and sunny, but it was minimal - hives are shaded from the sun and so the temperature 'feels like' factor is low. I was concerned to see about a dozen dead bees on the ground at the hive entrance, all of...
