    Double Brood?

I expanded this year from 1 to 8 hives but have now condensed them down to 5 stronger hives. I spent a fortune last year so am looking to consolidate in 2015 and rather than expanding too much I was thinking of making all my hives double brood or brood and half next year. My fist question is...

    Electric Pylons

Just looking at possible Apiary sites for next year. I have been offered a piece of land under some large electric Pylons. I have heard that bee's and Pylons don't mix but not sure if there is any truth in this. Does anyone have any experience with Apiary's under Pylons? Cheers

    Bee Types

I was speaking to a beekeeper today who's hives are located within a mile or two of mine. He seems to have been beekeeping for decades and only keeps Apis Mellifera Mellifera (Dark European) bees. In my 7 hives I have(I think) 4x Carniolan, 1x Buckfast and the 2x Dark. Is it good practice to...

Who keeps bees on an allotment?

I have four hives on my allotment. I have 6 foot netting on the boundary fence and 4 foot netting around the hives. All my allotment neighbours are happy that I keep bee's and have even helped me with the couple of swarms I've had this year.

    Suitable Garden?

I think that is a really good way of putting it into perspective. I've owned dogs all my life and would say I am a responsible dog owner so have never had a problem with my German Shepherd attacking anyone. It is probably the same keeping bees. At the moment I am a total novice with no...

    Suitable Garden?

I have contacted the Huddersfield BKA and they seem fantastic, gave me lots of advice over the phone and put my name down for a possible course in Feb. They dd not completely rule out using the garden but maybe only for a very experienced keeper.

    Suitable Garden?

Thanks for all the advice...I will contact Huddersfield BKA in the morning and see if any is local that could pop round. Seems that from reading some of the local clubs websites they even try find you a suitable location if having them at home is not an option.

    Suitable Garden?

I know I have no experience but like I said I was hoping to learn from now till spring. I would not dream of starting a hive with no experience.I just thought making sure I had the right location was the first basic requirement before even thinking of anything else. My garden is about 40ft x 40 ft

    Suitable Garden?

Before I start getting excited I would just like to check my garden would be ok to accomodate one or two...
