    Requeening end of September

Hi Everyone, I’ve introduced the newly mated queen into the hive on September 26th, she’s been accepted (checked her yesterday) Can’t see any signs of eggs, but I assume she will lay in the next week or so? If so would it be too late for her to build up enough capped brood to cover winter...

    Extremely aggressive bees. Help needed

The one of option you can take is to take one super off at a time using a clear board and porter bee escapes in the clear board, until it down to the brood chamber. Transfer the rest of the bees and frames to a Nucleus box. this can be done in stages from now to next April. In April it should...

    Signs of accepted caged queen?

Now you have divided your colony in two.The old sight would have half the brood so they can raise their own queen and this will stop the colony becoming dispondant. If the old colony calms down after the new virgin emerges you have the option of keeping her. If the new virgin turns out to be bad...

    Signs of accepted caged queen?

Your best bet is search for queen cells and destroy them all and go through it again in another 3 days and destroy any queen cells. I would leave tabs the cage 6 days before taking the tabs off. Then check in 2 days that she is out of her cage and leave another 4 days before searching for eggs...

Bee poo on house windows and cars

It is a problem and can only be remedy by having less bees or no bees. The upside is that ground around the hives is the moist fertile land in the area with a few hundred thousand bees dyeing as well with the potash being spread around as well. I had a dismal bit of grass on the verge in...

New hive, plenty of space but have Queen cells

It would have been a good idea to have super ed the hive when transferring the Nuc The free heat from the central of the brood nest easy to occupy the space above. (The chimney affect )You may have to feed to get the bees to draw out the comb. Does not look like your going to be able to keep...

Destroying supercedure cells yay or nay?

This has become very prevalent these days. You may find that when her own progeny takes over the nucleus hive they will be more in sync with her and the problem will disappear. If it doesn't happen go ahead with supercedure. Could be something wrong with the queen. I have had this problem myself.

    Which type of bees?

If I was you I would go for natives AMM or local bees. COLOSS a resurch oranisation have proven that local bee survives and gathers the most honey over the years. They live longer up to a third longer more frugal with their stores. I had some Buckfast bees in 60 or the 70 is and I had to feed...

Welcome to Etton bee-keeing If your bees have got burr comb down from the base of the frame to the mesh and there is a gap at the front of the base board then some of the bees can miss the entrance and find their way under the mess and think I am home. There are lots of problems that can be had...

Sorry to hear of your loss there have been some losses in this area as well and I think the only way to catch these theives are if we chip our hives with navigation chips, so you dont have to scan anything and lead the police right there.
