Loads of crystallised Rape, can you blend with himalayan balsam honey?

I got quite a large amount of Rape honey in spring from a couple of my apairies, reading on the tinternet they talk about seeding with creamed honey but can I blend it with himalayan balsam honey from a later crop at my other sites or do I have seed it as recommended to get the smooth non...

    Oxalic acid sublimation vs trickling

Quick question..... Does oxalic vaping actually kill varroa mites or just cause them to drop off the host?

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Checked all my colonies today and they were all out of fondant (Neopoll) even though I stocked them all up less than 2 weeks ago so must be expanding nicely. However, one of the hives looked quite weak so I'm thinking her Maj hasn't made it through the Winter but still too early to open yet to...

    Painting Poly Hives

Thanks for that PG - I'm always learning, and most of it involves spending more money lol!!! No, seriously, I'll give that a try as this is cheaper than buying new Kingspan inserts for sure :-)

    Painting Poly Hives

Indeed, I agree, Kingspan does get munched. All my colonies have it and about half have been munched... I've even painted it before putting in the hive and they still munch it regardless!!!

Wet stored frames - is now a good time??

Hi Folks, I still have several wet frames left from last season where they have pollen stores or nectar still in (some of them are loaded) - Should I wait a few weeks or wait for 'T-Shirt Weather' before applying in a couple of weeks or so??? All colonies are on Neopoll so won't be starving...

And again, it goes predictably downhill....... modus operandi evident in so many cases............

    More space needed?

I had this happen to me a few years ago, never again! - they had built up so much brace comb it was entirely covering the underneath of the crown-board (all x5 colonies did the same). I then devised a cunning plan to put the crown-board on (so the holes spread the most combs) and filled above...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Aye, but even triple wrapped in cling film with small holes it still ended up rock hard and unusable in the past with me - maybe previous winters have been harsher but I decided it was not really fit for purpose because of that....... or maybe that there's more heat overall in a TBH than a...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I know but bog standard fondant is only feeding them with the bare minimum- and it tends to go rock hard in my experiences........ I could spend time making up a solution with glycerine and thymol but for a few quid it doesn't weigh up for me personally..... A major seller selling fondant that...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Fondant memories.......... Took advantage of the dry, calm day and checked all my colonies for fondant - glad I did as 2 were completely out. Switched to Neopoll fondant and hoping it will give them a boost - seemed to work well last year at around this time. Noticed one thing though - the...

Hive lost through Nosema - do you burn or can it be reused?

Thanks for all the good solid advice folks, much appreciated indeed :-) I have now sealed the hive in question and will get the bees tested before doing anything now just to be sure I know what I'm dealing with, but it does look like a heavy case of Nosema although I'm not ruling anything out...
