    Standard Nation Hive frame Type

Yes alanf I’ve been shown the basics on the Snelgrove swarming technique, using double brood. It seems to be a clever way to control the bees. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

    Standard Nation Hive frame Type

I remember somebody telling me to check the dark side of the frames first, most of the time there was no queen to be seen. It's seems to be more luck than skill if you spot her, even if she's been marked.

    Standard Nation Hive frame Type

Thanks for all your wisdom. I can see what you mean about using 14 x 12 or Commercials and why it's better than double brood, and it would be easier to find the queen.

    Standard Nation Hive frame Type

Thanks for all your advice I have now bought SN4 and DN4 frames and a dummy frame for the brood box, I,ve heard that it's better to use two brood boxes as it gives the bees extra room and theres less chance of them swarming is that correct?

I was told the hive was constructed from external plywood and I don’t think it’s been treated with anything, I should have bought a cedar hive then there’s no messing about.
