    Under 3 feet/over 3 miles

I was going off to check my bees and had a load of supers in the back of my truck just about to leave and my wife asked if I wanted a quick coffee. By the time I had my coffee, I had a swarm move into the boxes on the back of my truck. :)

    Can Bees Clean Away Mould?

They are very useful if you are collecting a swarm as they keep the frames apart when you move the box and they stop you from squishing your bees or the queen. I have a small box that I have had for years I take them off when the bees are settled.

Any guesses on what has (effectively) killed my colony?

I have had exactly the same thing happen in the last couple of weeks one hive on a row of 10 all the rest fine. They looked like they were starving with bees dying in the frames bums sticking out although there was plenty of honey in the hive. Not CBVP I am sure I have had that before and no...

need to try my first cut out

Take some sharp knifes and scrapers some clean buckets for the clean comb with honey, and boxes with lids for the old stuff. I have done them and fixed the old comb in frames with elastic bands but the last one i did was 6' high with stacks of brood so I just chopped the brood into 9" chunks and...

When to hive an extremely large swarm?

Get it in a bigger box now or they will leave. I have a massive swarm at the beginning of the season in a reasonably sized box and they legged it.

Any scouts at your swarm trap?

I had a load of supers on the back of my truck last year ready to go out to the hives. I decided to have a quick coffee before I went and in 10 mins a swarm had moved into the supers all full of frames on my truck. Bees....They just don't play by the rules:)

    Beetradex update

I exchanged my wax with National Bee Supplies I had 53lb and they gave me 10 packs of brood and 12 packs of super. I have no idea if that was a good deal but I was happy.

    Beetradex update

Its my first time at the show so no comparison but there was a massive que to pay at Bee Equipment stand so didn't bother to look properly at what they had. I picked up a pre-ordered load of hexagonal jars from Freeman Harding and took 50Lb of wax in in exchange for foundation ended up £350 up...

    Farmhouse Trapout

The bees can know exit through the funnel and will fly back to the original entrance that they can still see but will not be able to enter. I have mounted the box with the entrance next to the old entrance with a frame of brood and lots of empty frames and hopefully the bees will have no choice...

    Farmhouse Trapout

I then mounted the baseboard by screwing it to the wall with a mesh cover over the entrance and a escape funnel for the bees to exit. The capture box will be fixed to this board also

    Farmhouse Trapout

I thought folks might be interested in a trap out I am doing. The bees are in the cavity and maybe the floor of a farmhouse and they need to go as the have stung two people already. I have offered to trap them out rather than kill the bees I don't expect to get the queen but will bleed the...
