    Huge bumble bee

I've had a purpose built BB hive in my garden several year now. Tried all different positions and even put a wild mouse nest in it. But to no avail. Each year I see masses of queen BBs at certain time in the early year so I hope this year to catch one (easy) and put it in my box with some...

    Putting Frames Together...

I love doing this with my grandson. He passes me the bits and nails and tools, I assemble them. He loves the idea of helping me, I love having him arround and something of value is produced. What could be better?

Will you be trickle feeding Oxalic Acid over the 2010/11 Winter period?

Hi, I'm running two hives on brood and a half for the first time. As the frames don’t exactly line up from the half to the main brood box, how sould I treat with OA? If I trickle the OA over a line of bee on the top half, it may well simply drop down onto a bar of a frame below and therefore...

    Britain's Trillion Pound Horror Story

I saw this and it made perfect and seriously worrying sense. I think it should be good compulsory watching for all politicians and senior public sector workers. As an example my council hand delivered a questionnaire to see how well they are doing/ When I did not send it back they hand...

    Oxalic or no oxalic?

Hi, I'm running two hives on brood and a half for the first time. As the frames don’t exactly line up from the half to the main brood box, how sould I treat with OA? If I drizzle the OA over a line of bee on the top half, it may well simply drop down onto a bar of a frame below and therefore...

Garden beekeepers: What are your bees foraging on?

I have tried to grow bee friendly plants in my garden (all sorts) but the little blighters just fly off elsewhere. never see my bees in my garden unless they are resting. Maybe they believe the old phrase "The other man's grass is greener" No pleasing some people. :(

    Smokin'

Light syrup spray? What mix and how do you use? Very very interested in the idea as I always hate the use of smoke but up till now had no alternative. Would love to find a bee friendly way.

    Apiary Windbreaks

Hi, Mine are reasonably well shelered from wind but was thinking of a roof to cover the hives (2 close together) to keep rain, snow and frost off. Good, bad or indifferent idea?

Help in moving colony to a deep brood

Got all the stuff for a complete second hive, plus 4 extra suppers on top of the existing 2 per hive plus this odd size brood. (could make a third hive with a floor, roof and a few odds and ends)
