    double dose of varroa treatment

Today I realised that I applied a double dose of varroa treament to one of my hives over the past 2 weeks :hairpull: The bees seem fine, BIAS, Queen looks well, still busy bringing in the HB pollen, and I've applied the correct dosage today. I am likely to have done more harm than good to...

Bees wanted South Cheshire/North Staffs area

Hi, does anyone in South Cheshire/North Staffs area have any surplus bees that they would like taking off their hands? Either a nuc or a full colony. I tried to stop my bees from swarming by doing a vertical split using a Snelgrove board but have now 2 Queenless brood boxes with DLW :hairpull:

What did you do in the Apiary today?

my lovely placid bees were a bit tetchy today and for the first time I used a bit of smoke to calm them. Think their mood was maybe due to the storm that arrived here about an hour after I'd gone through the hive. Also spent a bit on the TH****S sale (using my own credit card!)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

inspected my one remining hive in beautiful warm sunshine. Bee numbers appear to be increasing rapidly now as the colony was low on numbers coming out of the Winter being a late nuc from last summer. BIAS and the most placid bees imaginable. Lots of yellow pollen coming in and HM seen wandering...

    Bad Reaction to sting

:hairpull: NO NO NO NO NO! As a registered nurse I can confirm that antihistamines are taken AFTER the event for bites and stings, and on a regular basis for conditions such as hayfever. Thank you.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Went to check my stored equipment had not been inhhabited by any unwanted wildlife over the Winter, only to find that my husband has started storing his clutter in my little bee shed :nono: Told him very nicely to put it somewhere else!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

First time I've seen grass in the apiary for 2 weeks! Treated both hives with oxalic acid and fondant. Looks as though they are coming through the winter OK-just hope they make it to Spring

What did you do in the Apiary today?

They were both small colonies raised from nucs this year, and I want to ensure that they have enough stores for winter. As it was such a lovely warm sunny day here and the bees were so well behaved I did a quick look through for my own pleasure.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Both hives doing really well, bee numbers are up, Queens and BIAS seen. Bees very busy today, in and out of the hive, lots of bright yellow pollen coming in. Checked brood box after uniting Q- small colony and Q+ small nuc last week. Queen seen and is laying well, BIAS, bees lovely and calm, smoker not needed today. 17 year old daughter came along for the experience and was delighted to see her majesty-she even took photos to show to her friends!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

All bees very calm and a pleasure to handle :hurray: Things...

only had my bees a couple of months and thought a few of them were mouldy or had a bee disease that I had not heard of. Confirmed at my local BBKA apiary practical session that it is infact HB pollen :o

What did you do in the Apiary today?

United my Q+ nuc with my Q- small colony using the newspaper method. Hopefully Queen will be accepted by all :grouphug: and provide a decent sized colony to make it through the winter. Hubby got his first bee sting!:cuss: Not happy- 'I wasn't even doing anything!'

What did you do in the Apiary today?

After my mentor 'Madasafish' diagnosed laying workers last weekend , my local BBKA supplied me with a small nucleus with a laying queen, with the hope of a future uniting. Followed my step-by-step instructions from our chairman, moved hive with laying worker to other end of garden, shook...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Saw larvae last week and was thrilled that my new queen had started laying. At todays check I was hoping to see capped brood- looks as though I have a drone laying queen as the only capped brood I can see is drone brood. Need to speak to my mentor as to what to do next.
