    Training

Thats my thoughts exactly, I'm trained to teach and just want to give some of my volunteers extra knowledge without having to pay £110 each for them to go on a non accredited basic beekeeping course. I did the basic beekeeping course and have learnt far more by actually doing the beekeeping...

    Training

Hi all, Do you need an advanced beekeeping certificate in order to provide an introduction to bee keeping course? I've phoned around including the BBKA and MDBKA and keep getting different answers, I've been passed on to the exam board too and am getting nowhere. Please help? Kind Regards Jess

will a virgin queen still mate in sept?

sorry just seen the other advice. I haven't used apigaurd, she definately isn't there, shes quite visible and I see her almost every time i do the inspection. The absence of eggs and emergency cells confirmed this, i decided to not take any chances, went through the hive today to double check...

will a virgin queen still mate in sept?

i know, this colony has already swarmed this yr!!! I united it with the smaller colony today. so fingers crossed, they except the queen and the new bees. I seen something i was not expecting today too (when i didnt have my camera to hand). The small colony that i've united had an ants nest...

will a virgin queen still mate in sept?

Yeah, I'm worried its too late in the yr and that this good weather won't last longer than this week. I think I will buy a new queen tomorrow. I dont want to chance it, this is my fave colony too.

will a virgin queen still mate in sept?

Basically one of my hives is queenless, the bees in the other hives are still producing charged queens cells. If i put a charged queen cell in with the hive and leave them to it will the queen still mate? If the mating is unsuccessful is it too late in the year to introduce a purchased mated...

Honey Harvest - just a few questions

Funny you should say that, I acquired these bees from somebody else who always removed all the supers and then feed them with candy. I was advised that this is bad for the bees but they all survived the winter well and I have 3 strong colonies and 1 that swarmed but is building up fast. I've...

Honey Harvest - just a few questions

Hi all, I was wondering when should i stop removing the capped honey from my hives. I live in manchester and the climate at the moment is humid, with slight rain for an hour or so every day. The bee's are still flying and i've already removed 5 suppers from my hives. each super contained...

    My bees swarmed

Thanks sus, I also agree that the comment 'emerged, not hatched' is a bit pedantic too. I have to say, hand heart that i've met quite a lot of really nice and helpful beekeepers however there are a few people in this game that seem to stick their nose's up at inexperienced beekeepers, which I...

    My bees swarmed

Thanks guy, I'm going to open that hive up tomorrow and check to see if she's hatched, if she has, I will then leave them to it for a few weeks, if she's laying then i'll mark her, if not i'll have to introduce another queen. Thanks for your help! :) Much appreciated

    My bees swarmed

Hi all, I'm looking for some practical advice. I'm a new beekeeper ( started in july 11) and have taken over several hives. Last week i conducted my routine inspection and noticed that one of the hives had all sealed brood and closed queen cells. I knew that my bees had probably swarmed, so i...
