    L plates or P plates

Every afternoon from about 2pm to about 4pm a large number of bees are seen orientating outside the hive. So, I'm wondering at what age a nurse bee leaves the hive for a peek outside, do they leave just once or over several days and for what purpose - maybe a p**? Are they older bees who will...

    Councils poor advice

Last year I responded to a call out to collect 'a huge prime swarm of honeybees'. Got to the address and was met by owner who then took me to see the 'massive' prime swarm........as you can guess it was the size of a wizened grapefruit. The owner then informed me that he had googled prices for...

    100m dash

I have to move 10 large colonies about 100m as farmer has sold the field. He's offered part of another field to accommodate the hives as the new owner has plans and bees don't feature! Great news as the farm is convenient, well sheltered and there is plenty of forage etc and I don't want to...

I agree. 15 mins on news at 6 too. And a 30 minute prog at 7.30. My neighbour rang to ask who he was...

    Bee sting desensitisation course

Thanks itma Thanks for the info. Yes, I do have the discharge letter from hospital, more like notes, I even asked the GP for a copy to get him to acknowledge that we were talking about the same thing. He did have a bit of trouble printing it out, talk about a dinosaur! I agree, long term I...

    Bee sting desensitisation course

Hi Thanks for the links. My problem is how to get round the GP. He needs to refer me and is adamant that there is no immunotherapy for bee venom.

    Bee sting desensitisation course

Just wondering if there are guidelines. Ten days ago, on holiday, I got stung by a random honeybee. Reaction was almost instant and got taken to a&e. They dealt with the wheezing, unable to swallow and loss of speech and after 12 hours sent me on my way with an epipen and both the Dr and ward...

    clumsiness making bees aggressive

:iagree: Bees that buzz/greet/follow are troublesome! Lottie holders may complain and you may be asked to remove the colony. Some Queens (a lot in the uk IMO) are just horrid and even with the calmest of handling never improve. It's in their genes and they will always be nasty. Mine have one...

What did you think of BBKA new Venue

The sweet and sour sauce was not guaranteed vegetarian as we asked, and the salads, apart from the lettuce, mostly had mayonnaise/gloop on. No plain yog without additives/flavourings/colourings. You must have eaten the strawberries as I never saw them. You'd be surprised at what seemingly...

What did you think of BBKA new Venue

Great photo opportunities of rape with a background of changing skies to be had on the way. Car parking was efficient BUT much, much too far away from the action. This saved me ££££'s as I couldn't carry anything I wanted back to the car. Maybe have the parking near the hall left for pick up...

    Plastic Queen Cups

Ecroyd in NZ sell boilable Bozi cups for about 10p each and bars to put them on for about £1.20. See website for details. Not sure if they would send to UK. Bought mine when I lived there and have used them for some years now. CHEAP stuff in NZ! I have thought about shipping stuff but never got...

A beehive that will be on trend for your urban loft.

    Roof Depth?

:iagree: Not so far to bend when you have loaded the upturned roof with hive stuff. The higher sides are also useful to catch bees that 'miss' the cat litter tray I put in the upturned rood when I want to shake bees to put into apideas.

    Mouse gaurds

Mice find a warm place, such as a hive, to hunker up when it's cold. I wait until I think all long periods of cold are a thing of the past, the pollen is coming in and the mice are busy scampering in pastures new (my bee shed). Mouse guard removal time differs each year.

    Microwave?

Hi Never have done this and am just wondering......... What power level do you use to liquefy a jar of set honey and for how long a blast? Yep, I know to remove the lid first! I thought that microwaves were good at heating water so am not sure about heating honey? Just wondering... Thanks
