How to unite a with a hive with supers on – advice please!

Putting the newspaper above will make the supers "dirty" when the bees move about and chew through them. I would suggest using clean paper that hasn't been printed on.

Need to kill off one of my hives

QUOTE=galileo;425876]Close them in at night when everyone is home, then move the hive a few metres away and set it up on a preprepared new stand with the entrance facing 180 degrees from the original direction. Next morning, set up a new hive on the old site. Put at least 6 frames in there...

need to find new home for bees

I sympathise with your predicament as I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago. However since finding a more suitable location, all the worry and stress has been lifted. Good luck with your search.

    Two queens in one hive

I've thought about the drone layer issue - yes this is also possible but there wasn't much drone brood present. Will keep an eye out next time. :iagree:

    Two queens in one hive

Last autum around September, one of my hives went for supersedure. At that time, both queens were seen. I did a quick inspection on Saturday and saw both queens still present. I was surprised to see both of them again as I expected one of them to have perished by now. There were BIAS covering...

    Couldn't believe my eyes

Thanks Sharon for the encouragement. I only have wooden nucs and will insulate them when I put them back outside tomorrow. I can hear them buzzing about in the nuc now which is a encouraging sign.

    Couldn't believe my eyes

The Queen was clipped, so I would assume that she would have died attempting to swarm. Could I also assume that the original hive is now left with a virgin Queen as well?

    Couldn't believe my eyes

Hi Sharon, I think they must be from my hives, but I don't understand why that could have happened as I think I've done a thorough job up to now. I couldn't inspect my hives as the weather was pretty bad and it was pouring down so one of my hives could well be Queenless. The swarm does have a...

    Couldn't believe my eyes

Went to check on my hives earlier this afternoon in case of any storm damage. As I walked towards my hives I could see something dense on a nearby apple tree. At first I thought it was some dead plant material or something like that. I had to take a second look and to my surprise there was a...

    Grumpy Neighbours

Agree with you Jenkins (and some others). I would be more than peed off if some stranger hoped over my fence/land to get to somewhere else. Wouldn't this be considered as tresspass? Now that she has had the courage to tell you to stop shouldn't be regarded as unreasonable and if it was me I...

What have you learnt this year?

... When you think a hive is queenless - they are often not ... don't be fooled into thinking that I can keep bees in my suburban garden ... bees knows best. I know very little.

    Solitary Bee colony?

    Agreed with your thinking.

    Solitary Bee colony?

:iagree: These are definately them. They look the same, their nest matches the description and photos and flying at this time also coincides with the information given. It also explains why they were't noticed prior to a week ago. All very interesting.

    Solitary Bee colony?

I did find them to be very fascinating but the farmer did get stung in the head whilst passing the banks recently. He didn't have much of a reaction though. Whilst I and others on here are fine with them, I'm afraid not everybody would agree. Swarm - thanks for the info. I will pass this on to...

    Solitary Bee colony?

How long is a short while and will they return or remain every year? I could explain this to him. As you can imagine, he's is supportive of pollinating bees but not if his workers are getting stung. To get to his storage building they have to past the banks. I don't think there is another access...
