    Plonk

You will get it one day... Hundreds of wasps in my shed, chewing through my wooden boxes to get to the combs inside, that's a pest! A nuisance! My bees, FYI, are fine against wasps...it's my shed they seem obsessed with not my colonies! The wasps in my shed are all after the last bits of...

Agree or not I did it...guilty! Yep horrible! I killed a group of wasps instantly! Maybe I should have left them finish out their season in whatever prolonged manner nature decides! If I get the same amount of wasps in my shed next year I will do exactly the same! I'll just film it for Karol...

    Plonk

I had loads of wasps grouped together in the corner of my bee shed, I got the blow torch out and quickly blasted them. They seem to have left the shed since Tuesday but I had them everywhere. I would have filmed them for you if I knew. Sorry.

    Anybody seen Balsam out yet?

Been flowering for a bit now, some pods already at my out apiary...I helped the grounds keeper pull some up on Tuesday! It's a beast...8ft tall and its everywhere! Much earlier this year tho!

    Scum!

Fill the bucket to the top, make sure the lid touches the honey only slightly. Leave it settle for a few weeks, when you extract remove the lid most of the "scum" is on the lid.

    Honey Fudge

I've just made some, it's cooling right now. I don't have a sugar thermometer so did the cold water test. Hopefully it tuns out ok! If not I've wasted a jar of honey! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    P**nes Poly Hives

Just to add to swarms comment, the bees glue/seal the CB down so I've never had water in any of the hives and I mostly use wooden supers with poly broods. And the colour on my blue one is cuprinol shades forget me not blue, the purple is summer damson. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Tell me more about the Buckfast bee

All this years increases have been from my best buckfast queen so next year will show if they are any different temperament wise. As for yield...great last year, amazing this year! If I buy queens I know where I'll be getting them from. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Tell me more about the Buckfast bee

Another thing to add, if there's clouds in the sky my buckfasts can be the worst colony in the apiary to inspect!

Tell me more about the Buckfast bee

More or less same with my one buckfast colony. It'll be interesting to see if her daughters, next year, show the same traits!

    Fireworks

This year they seem to be louder but I have a very stressed dog in the house who reacts very badly to the noise so I more tuned in to the bangs! Very upsetting seeing jazz (my papillon) so distressed!

Can I over feed at this time of year.

I'm only feeding 2 small colonies right now, my others have enough stores. The ivy is covered in bees and I still have white bees coming in! As per over feeding this time of year...last year I fed all my colonies using the feed till they stop rule, one colony just kept taking it down. Come...

    Honey prices 2013

I agree! Last year I had no problems selling at £5 per 1/2lb, this year as I've got a lot more honey I've put the price at £4 per 1/2lb and so far sold half without any need to try and sell it! The people come to me.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Same! Weather supposed to be good for the next 10 days! I'm going to leave supers on till September and treat with MAQS, after seeing them busy today and hearing the roar this evening I'm hoping they are working something!

How to encourage bees to cap stores

Good point, I'm in the same position as OP, I have apiguard for the smaller colonies and I plan to buy MAQs for the larger ones that still have supers on. I can compare results next season.

Are you planning to replace white queens ?

I'm keeping my white queen, She's done very well over the last 2 seasons! If she survives winter excellent, if she builds up next season and they don't swarm (like this year) even better! I've had 4 queens from her so I'm happy going into next season knowing her blood line and hopefully traits...
