    what is this?

    Hi My friend says he has a bee/wasp nest in his garage that he wants me to get rid off. He is about an hours drive so i asked him to send me a picture however i cant tell if its a bee or a wasp, Im leaning to wasp but happy to be wrong.

    what can i use instead of fondant?

    My bees are running low and i want to give them some fondant but all the delivery dates are for late next week and I'm nervous that it might be to late then. Is there something i can use in the mean time? Thanks

    wasps nesting in my hive

    Went down to check on my hives yesterday and one of them has been completely destroyed by wasps. It was a weak hive anyway but still would of made it through the winter. So my question is do i take out all the frames and burn them?

    killing a wasp nest

    Afternoon all I am doing a favour of a friends mum. she has a wasp nest underground in her garden. I said i will get rid of it for her. So i was just wondering if my full suit is wasp proof? My bees have never stung me through it but i dont know much about wasps. Any ideas? Cheers

    I don't think they need vorroa but i worry and they do need feeding as I'm about to take the honey (yes i know its late)

    Morning all I have been away from my hives for the last 2 months and I'm playing catch up with my hives. Im going to start to feeding them in the next couple of day and was wondering if i can kill two birds with one stone an treat them for varroa as well? Or have i missed the boat for both...

    Bees reducing in number

    Hi I have 3 hives at the moment on one site 2 are doing really well, however every time i go and check them one of them seems to have fewer and fewer bees in each time. I can't see any eggs, i can't find a queen. What would be my best course of action to get it back to normal?

    I have to buy some new QE for my 4 national hives and have found plastic and metal ones for the same price. Im thinking metal would be easier to clean but i still new at this and don't know. Any ideas or preference? Richard

    double brood box

    Is there any benefit of having a double brood box on a hive? Loads of American websites seem to say thats the normal thing but i can't see any befits of it. Im just wonder if i should set one up this year to compare it against the single. Any words of wisdom?

    Morning all I havent been able to visit my hives over winter (I broke my leg and couldnt get to them) however i planning to go and see them monday should i take any 2:1 sugar syrup just in case they need feeding? I will only be able to do one trip because im still on crutches. Thanks Richard

    bees clumping in the super

    its a normal national setup, brood box at the bottom with a queen excluder and a super on top. The bees are mostly in the brood box doing their normal stuff but they have started to make a small clump in the middle of the super. I will take a photo tomorrow because im not great at explaining stuff.

    Afternoon all I went to my hive today to take off the feeder and noticed the bees are clumping in the super. Is that a normal thing for them to do? Any ideas? Richard

    Honey bee identification

    Morning all Someone ask me what type of honey bee i had, and the only answer i could give was a blank look. I know there are many types of honey bee but i don't know how to identify Buckfast from a British Black. Any ideas? Richard
